Actual print speed is mostly unaffected. The transfer is different, in one case the driver tells the OS to transfer the print job after it is entirely processed locally, in the other it sends page by page as it is rendering them. The first is better as it is much easier on the network, and the 2nd makes the job get to the output tray slightly faster in cases where network speed does not intervene.
But in the 2nd case, when something goes wrong during transfer, it is much worse.
