Older devices weren't bi-di so you would need to manually program finishers, trays and XSA setups etc. Now it is all done automagically ;-) , so yes this is a relatively new thing (about 1.5 to 2 years)
Tray 5 specifically is most of the time what is causing it for the reason you list.
You cannot tell it what to look for from the printer or the driver (both Windows and Mac)
So the error will stay unless you lose all the nice features to get rid of the minor annoyance of the triangle by using a one way comm, such as HP Jet direct, which is equivalent to RAW on a PC, with SNMP disabled.
