Re: 7500 Lots of 'Printer Status' documents in print queue

$

I have not seen this on a USB install ever, but, the reasoning is probably similar, and the workarounds at the end of this capture from the Xerox Engineering team may get you somewhere in eliminating the issue. The following words are not my own, and does not in fact deal with USB, but the underlying explanation should still apply.

Problem:

When printing from newer Mac OS's 10.7 and 10.8 a user will see additional print jobs appear in the Mac queue. This occurs when printing locally from a Mac

or when printing from a shared queue. (Example of a shared queue Windows 2008

server pointed via LPR://server ip/printershare)

What and Why the jobs now appear:

Our engineers have investigated this problem the print driver is working to meet new Apple OS design requirements.

As part of ongoing security measures, Apple operating systems starting in 10.6 prevent any application that does not need network access to complete its "work" from having network access. This includes print drivers inside of  applications. All print drivers (Xerox and Competitors) are bound by the same rules and no longer have access to direct network communication. Xerox uses the "Printer Status job" as their way to meet this security requirement and still be able to gather the necessary device information. If the job is titled "Supply Levels" this job is created by the Mac OS and is required to capture Toner Levels. This also occurs because of the above description.

Why jobs may be stuck in a shared queue:

Xerox does not support the following configuration: an LPR connection between

a Windows print server and a Mac client.

The Xerox Mac OSX driver contains custom XBDS filters/commands which are used

to communicate directly with the device. When communicating from a Mac to a Windows server, via LPR/LPD, the printer status jobs can hang in the Mac OS print queue. This occurs because Windows server cannot resolve the communication being sent from the Mac client. The reason the Windows server cannot resolve the communication is because the information sent from the Mac is meant for a

printer and not a Windows OS.

Second Possible Reason for jobs being stuck in the Mac queue:

The Mac driver intends to send this print job to the device, however in this customer's case the Windows Server is between the client and device. Since the

Mac does not know it is not communicating with a printer it continues to send

the Printer Status job, via HTTP (port 80), waiting for a response back. The server does not know it is being asked to act like a "printer," and does nothing with the job, and eventually rendering the job stuck in the print queue until it

is manually deleted.

Workarounds to prevent the jobs from occurring:

  1. Disable Bi-Directional Communication (To configure a preset with bi-di disabled please perform the following)
  2. Open any application
  3. Select File > Print > Xerox Features
  4. Select Advanced > scroll down and select Bi-Directional Communication
  5. Select Off then Ok
  6. Select the Presets dropdown
  7. Enter a new name for this preset, select All Printers and select Ok.

Refer to the following link to describe how to set a custom preset as the new

defaults

http://www.404techsupport.com/2012/08/setting-printing-defaults-in-mac-os-x-through-presets-and-cups/

  1. Configure the printer on the Mac using SMB instead of using LPR. Please refer to the following information on how to configure a printer via SMB

¢This is only valid for shared print queues¦

Below is a link with steps on how to add the printer on the Mac.

http://reality-and-a-half.multiversum.com/how-to-smb-connection-url-mac-os-x-10-5-10-6-10-7-windows-server-2003-2008/

-This link offers the correct URLs for 2k3 and 2K8 windows servers to Mac OSX

all the way back to 10.4.

  1. Modify the driver PPD file and remove the following command cupsCommands:

"ReportLevels ReportStatus". Removing this command will also prevent any bi-di communication to occur between the device and driver.

The modified PPD can then be loaded onto the Mac clients

  1. Create the print queue using Bonjour instead of using an IP address. This problem only occurs if the print queue was created manually using an IP

address and it does not occur if the printer is installed via Bonjour

  1. If Port 80 or Port 443 is blocked please add an exception to the Mac OSX

proxy.

The Global driver should never be used with a Fiery, remove it completely and delete the port it is using.

The 250 driver is pretty much garbage at this point, you will have much better luck using the Docucolor 242/253/260 Fiery driver. Get it from EFI.com though.

I assume by LPR Mode you are meaning a driver configured with an LPR port, and not that you are submitting through the command line ala lpr -S 192.168.1.100 -P print "C:\1.pdf". If so, make sure you disable the LPR byte Counting, This is likely the cause of the crashes if you have it enabled.

Capture.GIF

You will never get the global driver to properly function on a non-Xerox controlled device, it will typically get a job to any device if you put it in Basic Printing mode, but you wont get any options. If you had a Xerox Freeflow Print Server you would likely be able to use it, but with an EFI based setup, you need their driver, and while Xerox.com typically has a Fiery driver available, it is almost never the latest version as EFI handles it on their site for the many different manufacturers that partner with them.

Hi,

I have recenty purchased a Colorqube 8580 printer and although the documentation says that it should be enabled by default I cannot find the printer using Airprint functionality on ios devices connected to the network. Firmware is factory original: System 1.3.8.P / OS 10.52 / PS 4.5.0 / ENG 26.P1.4.5.0

Is there a way to enable airprint funactionality for this device and/or get a copy of leter firmware to resolve issue?

system cannot find printer

I have a 6500 that I am running on W10.  The other day printing started to go to the queue, but the printer window said that the printer was off line.  I rebooted the system and restarted the printer.  I disconnected and reconnected the data lines.  I have both an network and USb connection to the unit.  I went to the Xerox website and downloaded the WC72XX_PrinterSetup...exe, but it can't find the printer.  I couldn't find any other drivers specific to my 6500, but this exe couldn't find the printer either.  What's my next step?

How can I print on a half sheet (5.5x8.5) of paper with my Phaser 6500DN?

$

I've been trying unsuccessful to print in InDesign onto a half sheet of paper (5.5x8.5").

I've told Page Setup that the Paper Size is Half Sheet with the vertical orientation and Scale is 100%.

Then under the "Printer..." button, I've chosen Manual Feed, and under Printer Features > 7. Media Handling, I have Manual Feed Slot Orientation: Portrait; Paper Type: Plain, Size Mismatch: Display Message and Custom Paper Auto Orientation is checked.

Then in the Print dialogue window that InDesign CS6 gives me, I have entered the correct width (5.5") and height (8.5") for the paper under the Setup tab. I've chosen the Portrait Orientation. Scale Width is set to 100% Height 100% and Constrain Proportions is checked. Page Position: Centered.

Everything looks good in the little lower left preview pane.

But when I try to print it onto a half sheet that I've fed through the manual feed slot, it prints in the upper left quarter of the content in the lower right quarter of the half sheet -- basically, if I had entered a full 8.5x11 sheet, it would have printed the entire content centered on that full sheet of paper.

I then tried to change the Page Position to Upper Left and I get the very same result. I've manipulated a lot of these settings and no matter what I choose, it always prints out the same exact way. Nothing seems to fix the issue at all.

Does anyone have any tips on how I can print on half sheets with this printer?

Thanks.

Staple position for Xerox WorkCentre 5875

Dear Community,

I have issues trying to staple landscape printing with Xerox WorkCentre 5875.

When I print landscape document, the staple is placed in the top-right corner, not in the top-left as expected.

This issue is present also in COPY function, selecting STAPLE (LANDSCAPE) as finalization.

I just want to be sure that the behaviour is normal, and the finisher is not able to staple in the top-left corner.

Or show me if there is a way to change this behaviour!

I tested the local copy and not only the printing function, to be sure that the issue is not driver related.

I tested the same workflow (printing and copy) on the Xerox WorkCentre 7835, with the same options. In this case the staple is placed in top-left corner as expected.

Thanks for your assistance.

Regards

CLAUDIO

It can be done both ways, the deciding factor is how the Original Orientation is set (Not the way it is loaded)

If you set a copy job to go to Tabloid and staple top left, the top left relates to the original doc. So if on the copier you have Original Orientation set as being Landscape, The staple will be put on the top left of the original paper as loaded.

2015-11-30 13.33.07 (Small).jpg

If the original is set to Portrait it will put it on the bottom left instead.

For print jobs, there are settings in the driver, and in most applications, Acrobat/Reader is set to choose automatically, which means a 50/50 chance (And it overrides the driver settings)

Use the Windows 8 driver for your machine from here.

When installing, make sure you choose Create a new Port and set it to Standard TCP/IP

Enter the IP address and make absolutely certain you uncheck the box for Query the printer and automatically select the driver to use I cannot stress that enough, if you do not do that, Microsoft will decide the Class Driver is the right one, that is not the case.

After installation, go into Control Panel > Devices and Printers and right click the driver and select Printer Properties > Ports > Configure Port and make sure these 2 highlighted boxes are not checked. (Stops Microsoft from converting to a WSD port as well as stopping the false Offline errors.

Hi martyevans,

Thank you for using the Support Forum. Make sure that tyou have downloaded PhaserMatch 5.0.3 from Xerox.com. The version from the Disk is 5.0.0. Additionally please try the following:
1. Install the print queue with the Xerox Print Driver Installer (currently version 3.64.0)
2. Calibrate with Xerox PhaserMeter or a Supported Spectrophotometer
3. Create an ICC Profile using “Profile My Phaser 7800

If this does not help please consider contacting your support centre for further assistance.

XEROX WC 3615 fuser error (62000 prints)

Dear support Support Xerox

My Xerox 3615 has 20 months of life.
I did 62000 prints.
Now It Error 050-130 jamming at the fuser.

In your web site the fuser is given to 200,000 copy

The question is, how many copies should do the fuser?

What you sell with the machine lasts less?

(Drum also prints 45000 rather than 80000!)

Many tanks Domenico

Both are sold with "up to" numbers.

Fuser is "up to 200,000" and drum is "up to 85000 pages"

If both are cut down to the numbers you are saying, the likelihood would be poor paper quality, or out of spec paper quality.

Running heavy stocks beyond the machines capability will massively degrade the fuser, and things like linens will permanently damage the drum. Envelopes are also a big killer of both items. These things can be run, but when they are, the total impressions of the drum and fuser will inherently suffer.

I know for sure the machines are sold with "Starter" toners, but I do not believe that to be the case for the drum and fuser kits, I can't say for sure.

Banner page ColorQube 9301 mandatory

Hi, I'm struggling to force my users to print always with the banner page. I mean, pages always printed with the userd ID and date. We could only establish a default setup but we have realized that users can change that when printing.

Is there any way as for forcing B/W printing to do this?

Thanks!

Re: Banner page ColorQube 9301 mandatory

You just change the next box to not allow the driver to override the banner. Properties > Services > Printing > General

Capture.GIF

As for color control, either use XSA to only allow specific user accounts for color, or just make anyone who is not logged in totally lose that ability entirely via:

Properties > Login/Permissions/Accounting > User Permissions

Select the Edit for User Permission Roles

2.GIF

Select Edit for the Non-Logged in users

3.GIF

Then simply lock them out.

5.GIF

But, please, make absolutely certain all your users know what you did and to not call Xerox because "They can't print in color". If they don't know, and they call Xerox, there is at least an 80% chance a technician will come on site and wipe the device, this should not happen, but it does, and the reason is that changes like this are made without the end-user being aware, and the end-user calls Xerox, and since Xerox is left troubleshooting a "Worked yesterday, doesn't today, nothing has changed on our end" call, the device gets wiped.

Hi. I've tried that but users still can change the option when printing. Basically they go through printer properties > advanced >  ID

Is there any way to block users to change it there??

Thanks

thanks for your answer.

I live in Italy.
Yesterday I spoke with one of his xerox support agent.
It answered from Sofia-Bulgaria.
This person informed me that drum and fuser sold with the machine is 50%+-.
Always this person told me that the machine is always sold with consumables (drum, fuser) about 50%+-.
And yet he said that dealers should inform customers about this.

We are now with the printer stops that we can not print.

Someone agent Xerox say one things and some another.

We have printed only standard paper.

Fuser: There is a big difference between 62 000 and 200 000 copies

Drum: There is a big difference between 45000 and 80000 copies

I'm really tired.

Please tell it like it is.

I am one guy who has no relation to any of the people you are speaking of, and I am in Canada.

At no point did I say you were running more then just regular paper, just mentioned it is the major cause of damage.

There is a big difference between 62000 and 200000, but not nearly so bad if the +/-50% is true, and it likely is, so the reality is you got 62000/100000, and even 62% of expected, still not good, but better.

And 45000 is more than half of the 800000, it Sofia is right, and I have no reason to doubt her, it was expected to get 40000.

You got 113% of expected there.

So the drum is where it should be and the fuser is not.

Again, knowing nothing of you, or the supplies you have used, or the environment it is in, humidity level etc etc I can only make guesses.

If the dealer did not disclose info during the sale of the device, I'm sure Xerox would like to hear about that. You can find localized support lines here

Re: Banner page ColorQube 9301 mandatory

You could use another driver or change the firmware on the printer.

The option you speak of should not in any way change the Banner sheet being printed. At best it should add the job ID to the margins of the job as well. If it is a glitch, it would be resolved via disabling the banner, rebooting, then re-enabling the banner.

If it is some sort of massive corruption a tech should be brought in to do a Forced Altboot.

It is definitely not a known issue on the device in question though, so corruption/glitch is the only thing it can be.
