Re: Configure Xerox Altalink C8055 MFP on IBM i (AS400)

Have you read the pdf that comes with the XTOOLS package?

Page 9 is exactly what you are asking. It literally steps you through the entire setup and has pictures.

If you have an issue with the directions in the pdf, reference where you can't follow, and provide explicit details with pictures of how it isn't working.

Please explain better.

The printer and driver should not be capable of saying a document is damaged, it can't be damaged, it is digital.

It also can't say it is corrupted, but an Application like MS Word very much can.

What is the exact error?

What is the exact application?

What exact Operating System are you using the software in?

What displays the error? (Please provide a screenshot)

and what driver are you using?

commandtoxbds process high CPU useage macOS

We have a macbook pro running 10.12.6 and connected to an AltaLink C8070 with driver version 4.8.0

The problem is that when the laptop is off the same network as the copier the commandtoxbds process seems to become stuck and constantly eats away at system resources making the laptop very hot. When the user comes back to the same network it sometimes prints and sometimes doesn't.

I've reinstalled the driver and it appeared fine for about a week but the issue has popped up again. This is the only combonation we currently have as all our other copeirs are Workcentres and the macbooks connected to those don't appear to have the same problem. Any thoughts?

Thanks Joe. Quick question. Are there any release notes we can download as well for this that document some of the changes? The last PDF we downloaded for info was for 100.xxx.057.09609.

Nevermind Joe. I see that the release notes are contained within the download folder. Thanks for the info about the new release!

Are you picking the printer from the list during install or have you tried manually creating a port ala LPD or IPP?

New WC6515, paper jams and device error.

I have had my brand spanking new 6515 for less than 24 hours and have already had 2 "paper jams' and a device error that required shutdown. What gives?

The paper jams weren't even really paper jams, both times I removed the paper tray to find one sheet, 1/3 if the way fed in, no jam and nothing caught behind rear door.

Even telling the printer to resume the job didn't work, it was just hung, saying it was printing but doesnt do anything, just circles around the pause symbol forever until I shut it down, lose my job, and have to restart and start the job all over again.

is this normal operation?

Hi Joe,

I've manually created a port using both IPP and LPD, i have not selected the printer from a list during install.

Then it would appear you are the first to report this, or the only one to have this issue.

You could try updating the firmware on the printer, although I don't see how it would affect the Mac that isn't there when the issue is.

Probably will need to escalate it to Xerox 2nd level support to verify and fix. If they can't replicate the issue, they will want to Altboot your device though

It isn't normal at all.

And since we know nothing of the environment or stock it is hard to guess.

But since it feeds partially, and just stops with no damage you can safely assume a feed issue, because the sensors internally know exactly where the paper should be at all times, and when the sensor doesn't trip when it should (the paper isn't there) it stops the jam and declares a jam to stop the paper from being jammed when it is being misfed. So if the paper isn't crooked or anything, we know the roller isn't picking up the paper properly.

And that could have a few causes, improperly programmed paper (Coated stock that isn't set that way)

Static cling (Paper not fanned and flipped etc)

Humidity (paper sticks when moist)

Cheap paper stock not designed for printers

So...

Check that the humidity is in acceptable range in the room the printer is in, make sure you load entire reams of paper, not a few sheets at a time (Static build-up), Don't store the paper near an air conditioner.Make sure it is loaded in the machine properly (Not just size, but type and weight matters). Try rotating it in the tray 90 degrees and see if it works better, it could be you are buying long grain vs short grain paper.

This stuff happens to every printer

Ok, improperly set paper could certainly be the cause.

And maybe I am missing something but I don't see in any of the menus, anywhere to set it for a specific type/weight of paper.

Is this automatically detected?

'My previous printer had a menu to set the type and size of paper.

And even if if that was the case, it doesn't explain why the printer will not resume once the "Paper jam" has been cleared. Having to reboot the printer in order to continue printing after a paper jam is ridiculous.

As as for the type of paper I am using, Hammermill, 24lb, laserprint. I believe it is a decent quality paper and I never had one issue with it in my previous printer. But, I'm not a paper expert ;)

Just tried the newest firmware on our AltaLink C8070, v100.0030107.28600, it's getting better but still not nearly as good as the copies and prints we used to get from our WorkCentre 7556. There seems to be a major issue with the darkness of what grey should look like, objects with low line weights come out almost invisible. We use varying levels of grey from 10% to 100% black in our prints, so distinguishing between them is important.

Any thoughts? or just keep waiting for a better firmware update?

How To Print #10 Envelopes on a C70?

$

Hi everyone,

We just leased a C70 with all the fixin's...  C/Z folder, stacker tray, and the oversized feeder.  Love it!  Nice machine.  But...

I find myself needing to print return labels on 500-1,000 envelopes fairly regularly.  Historically, we have done this (VERY PAINFULLY) over several days on HP Laserjet products through their bypass trays.  It's horrifying, but works.  I'd like to use the C70; at least for some of it.

They are standard #10 envelopes.

I cannot for the life of me even get the dam thing to feed most of the time even after reading this Xerox forum article.  I use Word 2010.  If I use the actual "envelope" function in Word, I cannot even attempt to print more than one and cannot get the print driver window up.  If I "make a document" out of it, the #10 envelope size is not an available size once I choose the C70 as my printer.  It is if my HP m551dn is selected...

I'm lost and frustrated.  Help, please?  Thanks!

Chris

  • If the control panel prompts you, verify the size and type on the screen. If you are not prompted, change the paper settings.
    1. At the printer control panel, press the Home button.
    2. Touch Device > Paper Trays.
    3. In the Paper Trays menu, touch the desired tray.
    4. To have the printer prompt you to set the paper type and size when paper is loaded, touch Tray Mode and then touch Fully Adjustable.
    5. To dedicate the tray for a paper size, type, or color, touch Tray Mode and then touch Dedicated.
      • To select a paper or envelope size, touch the current size setting. Then from the list, select the size.
      • To select a paper type, touch the current paper type. Then from the list, select the paper type.
      • To select a paper color, touch the current paper color. Then from the list, select the paper color.
    6. To save the setting, touch OK.
  • To return to the Home screen, press the Home button

No idea on the not resuming thing, probably firmware related, try updating it to the latest here

You would have to look up the paper by part number to find if it is the short or long grain version (I believe Long grain is better for this device sine it can't run the paper LEF)

I haven't tested it personally, as far as I know they are not done, but they (Engineering/Development) are not really forthcoming with information. If people keep complaining they will surely keep fixing. I have no idea what they are up against, but since they seem to have a new release with very small color changes on a nearly weekly basis since launch, It must be formidable, or they would have given us a fix all at once, instead of in little bits that may or may not need a calibration after an update.

I can confirm this line exists on the internal only release notes

"NOTE: If image quality issues are still present, ensure you have performed a Copy Calibration and a Print Calibration."

And another one about a particular NVM setting that may need a change if it was changed previously, I am not at liberty to discuss that here(NVM information is not public information), my job isn't worth some Internet points. Sorry.

The post you followed was specific to your printer but using an EFI Fiery, do you have one? If not those steps are not correct at all.

The attached 2 PDF files show how to run them with and without a Fiery

If you get it working to your liking, you may want to consider an envelope fuser to use when running large jobs, else damage can occur to the roller.
