No your symptom is a bit different. The cpu fan spins at a steady rate. It sound like the larger fuser fan in the rear right of the machine.

Re: C70 Mac OS 10.4.7 Driver: Tips?

You will never find a driver that will work fully. Especially if this 10.4 is Power PC, not intel, nobody has made drivers or software for that platform in a long time.

So that will leave you with the :

Supported way = Save as pdf and import into CWS and set your properties there.

Unsupported ways

1. Get a Fiery Express driver installed from EFI.com and hope to get basic functionality to work (duplex, stock selection)

2. Setup any driver for any fiery that you can source for 10.4 and print to the hold queue on the Fiery. Modify anything needed via CWS before print.

There really is no good answer sadly, Even Apple dropped support entirely for the OS in 2009.

If the C70 has the Postscript kit (probably not if you paid for the Fiery) you could skip the Fiery, use the Mac PPD for the integrated controller, and print using HP Jet Direct port (put :9200) after the IP address when you create it, and the print will go straight to the copier and you will have full ability of the C70, but nothing Fiery specific, and the job will not show in CWS.

But if the C70 has no PS kit, you are out of luck, there are no PCL drivers for Macs

Thank you Joe.

Like the "save as pdf and import to CWS".  Works well.  I'll try the Postscript using HP Jet Direct connection solution.  That style of connection is completely new to me.  Very good details.

Had Xerox come in and they increased the % for the "low/mid/high" which I guess is the quantity of toner that the machine spits out for shadows/blacks/greys/etc. After adjusting them to be much higher (I think they said they bumped it to 127%). Prints look good! Greys all look properly grey again. Copies still result in some loss, and we think this is still a firmware issue.

It isn't widely known and isn't an option on all devices.

EFi allows prints to bypass the Fiery on port 9200. So on a Windows PC you can install with the port set to RAW and simply leave the port as 9100 (Default port for RAW) and it goes to the Fiery, but if you want to print to the copier and want no trace of the job to ever see the Fiery, you can use 9200. But if you use the Fiery driver it will definitely fail, because the copier/printer does not understand the language of the EFI Fiery.

So you need the Xerox driver. But...

The C70 is most likely sold with a Fiery, so Xerox simply doesn't by default put a Postscript interpreter in the C70, they make it a paid option, for multiple reasons. It can be left with less hardware, less software and less licensing cost. This isn't a consideration in most devices, but why add features that are just going to be bypassed by the Fiery? It saves the company (Xerox) money, and possibly the customer (not paying for a printer that has features they are not going to use)

Mac's just name it differently, In Windows it is called RAW and on a Mac, it is HP Jet Direct.

Mac doesn't show the port number, but you can add it in the address. So if the Fiery is on 192.168.1.100, you can bypass it to get to the printer by simply using HP Jet Direct to 192.168.1.100:9200

The big issue is Macs hate PCL. So you are limited. If you use Generic PCL it will work. If you use Generic PS it may work, and if it doesn't, will either print PS code (a lot of pages of gibberish) or display a fault (I can't for the life of me remember what the fault code is)

Great explanation.  Hopefully my novice skills can get these options to work.  The 9200 HP Direct connection sounds promising - I'll need to confirm if the required printer options are available.

Again, Thank you.  Very detailed and easy to understand info.

Xerox GPD. Printing prefs ignored after Windows Update 1709 (Fall Creator)

I am experiencing massive issues after Windows 1709 update (Win 10 machine) using Xerox GPD PCL6 V3.9.520.6.0 or Xerox GPD PCL6 V4.0.548.8.0.

I am not using a print server, this relates to direct printing from Win10.

Steps:

-Set printing preferences (eg. duplex, 2-sided, etc)

-Open eg. Acrobat or Word

-Choose to print and check the preferences

-Preferences show none of what I have selected on the print properties

As far as I know these settings are stored in the registry (HKCU...DevMode...)

Can´t speak for Win 7 or 8.

Also tested with an HP driver, no issues so far.

Has anybody seen this before?

I just installed the driver, set some oddities in the preferences (Tabloid, flip short edge, print to useless left tray, high res)

Opened Adobe Reader DC.

File > Print (shows the 2 sided short edge I selected)

1.JPG

Then opened the properties and verified nothing was different than the preferences, even opened them side by side

2.JPG

So it certainly isn't an issue with the latest GPD PCL6 locally installed on Winodws 10 build 1709 (x64) in all applications.

I can't test Word (Don't have it on the Win 10 box) or Acrobat for the same reason as Word.

And yes, I could for whatever reason simply have changed the settings to match what should be there in order to show the screenshots matching, but it would be rather pointless to do so.

If a reinstall doesn't fix it after a complete driver removal, I'd call Xerox to get it sorted out. I'm not too sure on how we will be able to replicate it since I already tried and failed here, but it may be a scenario where the update to 1709 broke it, not the act of having 1709 with the latest GPD. If that is the case, and it will take a lot of testing (Windows fresh installed to an older release, driver added, then Windows updated, it would be a full shift if not more, only to prove MS is at fault)

If you do call Xerox, and are in the US, and go through to 2nd level support, update this post with the log number so I can look into it further.

Please note, my Win 10 box is my personal one, Xerox has more and will have Word and Acrobat to test against, I'm just using my personal toy here because the forum isn't my job, I do it on the side

So I just got a new phaser 6510/DN printer which supposed to have duplex page printing ability. I'm running windows 10 on my pc but thet wife is still running Vista. I have the V4 drivers loaded she has the V3 drives and the duplex option is greyed out. How do I enable it for Vista?? The V4 drivers aren't listed as an option when you select Vista on the support page for drivers etc.

Thanks Marc

Xerox Phaser 3610 duplex usb issue

Good morning.

In our office we recently bought new printers Xerox Phaser 3610 DN.

If I connect it to PC via UTP, it will print on duplex no problem at all.

If I connect it to PC via USB 2.0, i can't switch in windows setting to 2-sided print. Box for choosing 1 or 2 sided print is grayed and can't be changed.

I tried to instal both PS and PCL6 drivers from Setup CD - same issue. Tried on several computers with same problem.

Thing is, we need to plug the printer to PC via USB port (we don't have in our office to much UTP ports).

Can You please give me some advice, how can I set 2-sided print via USB connection?

We use Win 7 Professional with SP 1.

Please, excuse my english, it's not my native language. I am from middle Europe

Re: "Xerox Features" driver doesn''t load in Safari 10.1, can't print on C70

Hi, this is an older topic but since it's still an issue at our workplace, just wanted to share a quick and dirty workaround -

many of our clients rely on the printer features subset for Xerox Accounting in OS X  (which, has never really worked in an ideal fashion as it does on Windows...), but fortunately in a program where the features DO appear correctly, setting whatever needs to be set and saving a global or global-to-specific-printer printing preset appears to work properly.

So, even in a program where the features drop down is busted, selecting a preset appears to configure things properly so one can print from Safari or another program exhibiting the issue.

Just thought I'd drop that here for any others looking for a better work-around than printing from Preview every single time...

Color stripes - WorkCentre 6505

My Workcentre 6505 all of a sudden began printing terribly. The toner is all fine. But prints are coming out with light stripes of yellow and magenta across the page. Does it need a fuser or imaging unit replaced? If not, what can I do to fix this?

Re: Phaser 6000 stuck toner cartridge

Hi, I finally solved.

the problem demonstrates how sometimes reality is beyond immagination: all three cartridge were stuck on the lower hollow plunger of the machine because an insulating tape band was jammed in correspondance of the cartridges toner exit on the cylinder that fits into the plunger.

Some times ago I had these open cartridges as extra parts and kept them apart after sealing them with white insulating tape. Someone else inserted the cartridges, and for three times the insulating tape was not noticed and not removed.

In these unlikely conditions the printer, incredibly enough, was able to work with no errors and correct output, but the tape and some toner made wicked pastries inside the plungers, which made a heroic resistance when we tried to extract the cartridges.

At the end I get rid of this mess, cleaned everything and had my beautiful phaser 6000 still working.

Thanks to Terry who give me his technical support, although he could not reasonably find the real, absurd, nature of the problem!

Phaser 6500 Laser Error 061-370

My Phaser 6500 starts up normally and then after a few seconds flashes "Laser Error...Error 061-370...Restart Printer". I have restarted the printer numerous times but the error keeps reoccurring. I have removed the imaging assembly and cleaned the lenses but that has not helped.

Are there any troubleshooting steps I can try? The printer is less than a year old.
