Xerox Altalink c8055 - selecting the Jobs app reboots the printer

We have 2 machines, purchased brand new in December, that both have the same issue.

 

We utilize a "held jobs" environment whereas all jobs sent to the printer get held until the user comes and releases their job.

 

For no apparent reason, one device suddenly got into a cycle where, when someone touches the Jobs App on the control panel at the printer (necessary to view Held Jobs), the printer will restart. Upon powering up, users can print their jobs for approximately 30 minutes (it is not consistent - anywhere between 15-60 minutes usually) after which the printer will restart again (once the Jobs App is selected from the touch panel).

 

About a week later, the other device started doing the exact same thing.

 

Software Reset did not fix the issue. In fact, the original device had techs come on site, replace the ribbon connecting the control panel to the motherboard, replaced the hard drive, installed the latest software on the machine, etc and the issue simply will not go away. I have just placed a service call for the second device, which I am not optimistic will yield any success.

 

It is pretty apparent that there is a software bug with the Jobs App that crashes the printer.

 

Is this a common problem for this model of printer? If so, is there any way to get a software update that fixes this? These are brand new, quite expensive units and they simply don't work as they should. 

 

Looking forward to a permanent resolution.

Thank you for the advice, Joe. 

 

I'm afraid we had to deliver the WC before I could attempt it.

I ended up hiding the file names and hoping the pile of test prints I made would make wading through to the previous prints unattractive.

 

When (if!) i get a chance to go back and try your suggestion I'll report back.

We use pad printing on a regular basis - iGen 5 with windows based freeflow. Up until a couple weeks ago, it worked like a charm. We always had an issue if we did a proof of the file - a release would get us 1 pad, no matter what we had set up.We resolved this issue by changing the # of pads and doing a process and hold before releasing.

 

Lately, we have been unable to get the file to print correctly by using our saved queue. No matter what, after a proof, it only prints 1 pad at a time. Now we are unable to use a queue and must set up each job after proofing. time consuming as there is layout, shifting, etc on top of the pads.

 

Any ideas on what could be happening?

6180 prints repeating lines of every color on whole page 1 1/8" between same color

This 6180 was not used for quite a while because it was out of black. I bought a black cartridge and it started working, sort of.  It prints horizontal lines of each color in a repeating pattern. They are about 1 1/8" between same color. See attached. 

 

I am thinking transfer unit, but wanted to ask before investing so much.

Versant 180 - Line on sheet

This is a 13x19 textured sheet. The line appears near the center and appears from edge to edge. I've tried several paper types, gsm's, and trays.

The "Embossed" setting does the best job however there is still a slight line that can be seen.

What causes the line?

Does anyone have a solution for this?

Hi,

once the two machines having exactly the same issue so sounds like to be a software issue or NVM is corrupted

 before doing any thing please make sure that the following procedures will delete all stored data on the System Disk Drive, including e-mail addresses, Xerox Standard Accounting data, and network configuration information

 

First Option is  NVM Initialization

 

  • From Diagnostics  >>Adustment >>dc301 NVM Initialization >

Domain : network controller 

 

Then initialize .

 

 

 

 

Second option is to reload the firmware

 

im not sure what the version you have but this one is the latest lunched on 24th Jan   100.002.018.01610

 

  - Create a folder on the USB Flash drive named AltBoot (not case sensitive)

 

  - Create a file named FORCED_UPGRADE inside the altboot folder.

 

1-Open the AltBoot folder

2- In a blank area of the screen, right click and select “New”.

3- Select “Text Document”.

4- The name “New Text Document.txt” will be highlighted.

5- Type “FORCED_UPGRADE” (the file name is case sensitive) and press “Enter”.

6- A pop-up with the message “If you change a file name extension, the file might become unusable. Are you sure you want to change it?” will appear.

7- Click on Yes

8- Create a file named  "DISABLE_DATA_BACKUP "inside the altboot folder.

9- Repeat steps 6 and 7

 

    - switch off the machine and Insert the USB Flash drive into it and then switch on back again .

 

 

After either the initialization or firmware relod methods the device may be

 

1- in a non-customer mode to restore it back >>

Diaganostic >>dc131 NVM Read/Write >chain link is 616-014 and select read >set the NVM value to 2

 

2- offline 

login as admin >> Tools>> connectivity setiing >>  online/offline > select online

 

once you finish you need to reconfigure the network setting IP Adress,Gateway , scan to email , scan to network, etc...

Amazing that this issue was reported back in november and there is still no fix...

Has anyone found a workaround or heard anything from Microsoft?

Hi experts,

 

we are encounter this issue after we upgraded server 2008 R2 64bit standard to 2008 R2 64bit entreprise.

previously it was ok.

 

this issue if we print out from SAP business one with reports using crystal reports.

Standard PLD has no issue.

 

word , notepad, excel no issue.

printer is xerox.

 

Preview with crystal viewer is ok, but only after click printer, select xerox printer, then the error pop out.

anyone can help?

It has to be assumed that the queue is broken, so it would stand to reason that simply making another one with the same settings and a different name would fix it.

 

Assuming nobody disabled PDL retainment on the FFPS...

Then you would need to troubleshoot in steps

1. Import pdf to the FFPS and apply settings, does it work?

2. Does it work imported to a new queue with the right settings?

3. Print to the queue from whatever application, does it still work?

4. Did MS decide your Windows 10 PC should be using a class driver?

 

etc etc to find the problem

It looks like it just did not quite fuse, which is typical with default settings on textured stock. Give this a go...

 

log in as the admin.

Then go to Machine Status > Tools > Common Service Settings > Paper Tray Settings > Custom Paper Settings

Choose one and give it a name, and adjust the Adjust Image Transfer setting

Usually the percentage needs to be raised, I suggest going in increments of 10% for both sides until you get a number that works with your stock

Then load a tray and choose the created Paper type from the list. (I called mine Linen in the above steps)

Global Print Driver problems

We are encountering two problems with the PS Global Print Driver 5.585.13.0 under Windows 10 1709 :

 

1) When printing multiple copies of any PDF file from Acrobat DC 18.011.20035 on a WorkCentre 7845, only one copy is printed. Using the older PS driver version 5.433.16.0, multiple copies print as expected.

 

2) When printing a Tabloid 11" x 17" PDF file on a Phaser 7500, even if the size is set correctly in Acrobat DC's print dialog, it must also be changed in the Properties tab of the printer as well to come out in the correct size. When using the older PS 5.113.12 driver, everything prints automatically in the right size and from the proper tray.

 

We would like to know when is an update of the Global Print Driver planned that will fix these issues not present with your older drivers?

You would have to call in and have the issue reported in order to expect a fix. (Spar process)

I have looked through the user manual but cannot find instructions on how to manually print on both sides of a document with my new 3215. I would appreciate a concise step by step explanation of the procedure. Thanks!

It only exists in the PCL driver, not in the PS.

File >  Print > Properties > Basic > 2-Sided Printing(Manual) = Long edge

Thanks but I'm still not clear. What are the PCL and PS drivers? Do you invert the printed page and feed it through the front door? Sorry to seem slow on the take here but coud you please give me a quick step by step tutorial on how to take a printed page then print on the opposite side? Thank's in advance!

If your print driver has the option shown above, use it and print your job, when it finishes feeding the paper (prints the odd numbered pages) it will prompt for you to reload it in the tray again to print on the other side (even numbered pages)

 

Since PS doesn't have the option and PCL does, and since I showed exactly where it shows PCL and even highlighted it, there should be no need of me to explain it further.

I just tried and cannot replicate using the exact same setup. I'm wondering now if the port can have an issue, because I manually installed with a Standard TCP/IP port. That or my Windows version is newer (I'm on the Insider Preview)
